Many consumers are confused on how to get started in home theatre and how much to spend. Contrary to popular belief, those on a budget can still afford a modest system that will make for a great home cinema experience.

There are inexpensive and mid-range product options that provide great value and performance, while some very expensive options only deliver a small increase in performance and may not always be the best value for your room.

Our experienced team at RYVE have put together six tips that will help those on a budget secure a home theatre system:

1. Have a think about what you want in your home theatre system.

Acquiring a home theatre system is exciting, and it’s essential to know you don’t need all the bells and whistles to create the home cinema experience. It’s possible that a TV with a sophisticated sound system will provide an immersive viewing and listening experience. Things you should consider is, how big do you want the screen? Is a projector necessary? Will you spend more time listening to music, playing video games, watching TV or watching movies? Do you need the internet to connect to your home theatre system for streaming?

2. To upgrade or start from scratch?

It may be, that some of the equipment you have could be used better and be included in your home theatre set up. Take a look at what you already have and consider if you what you want to keep—at least for now. Some items you may have that could become part of your new home theatre system. These could be items such as a DVD or Blu ray player, game consoles, equipment rack, seating and display device (TV or projector).

3. Package deal or Soundbar may do!

Given the room or space you have to work with, it’s possible a sound bar or a package deal may work well to create your home cinema experience. A sound bar is a device that produces a full surround-like field from a single speaker cabinet, which can be placed above or below a TV. A package deal (depending on the one you choose) can come with mountable speakers, and a wireless subwoofer, this may be all you need. These are affordable options.

4.What about the accessories?

When you purchase the necessary equipment for a home theatre system (think projector or TV, Blu-ray, speakers, subwoofer etc) these items are not your final purchase- as you still need the cables, the universal remote control, mounting brackets and more to get it all set up and working. Accessories can be expensive, too. Often it’s hard to know exactly what you need, type of brackets, length of cables, etc.

Our Technicians carry a broad range of accessories to suit a variety of installations, so if we are doing your install, most likely we will have everything you will need right there with us. This means no need to guess and pre-purchase accessories only to find out later they were incorrect.

5. Buy second hand or refurbished products.

At RYVE we sell new and second hand, quality equipment on our eBay store. Buying second hand or refurbished products can save you money, if you’re concerned about the quality, know that in electronics, ‘refurbished’ means for the consumer, not new but tested to factory standards.

6. Saving money is good; adding value is better.

Following the above tips will make it possible to install a home theatre on a budget; although adding value to your home by introducing a proper home cinema could increase the homes’ value.
In some homes, It could be viewed as an investment, rather than a cost. The critical thing is not to buy the cheapest, but don’t overpay for a minor increase in performance. Be comfortable with your purchase, an excellent way to start is to buy a good TV and expand from there.

Shopping for a Home Theatre system can be very exciting; although it’s not too rare to hear consumers who have overpaid for equipment, and are unsure how to install everything correctly in the space they have. If you’re considering a new home theatre, our team at Ryve
advise to take the following into consideration before you purchase:

Research
When considering investing in anything, it always pay s to do your research on the product of service. Check out the products online, view comparative reviews, and Better yet, do your research so you are well informed and can make good decisions.

Be Aware
It’s important that when you are buying a product, you should consider all expenses related to that product, including needed accessories and delivery fees. If you opt to purchase from our online store, we offer free delivery to those based in Melbourne on some items. Just give us a call to confirm.

Read the fine print
Read all ads very carefully! An important way to prepare is to learn how to interpret the different types of ads that clutter your browser or google searches. Ensure you read everything on the ad, including the fine print.

Understand return policies
When excitedly purchasing your new home theatre equipment and products, it’s worth ensuring you understand the return policies if there are any. This is critical if you are buying items as a gift. Understanding the return policy could save you time and money; some businesses don’t return items that have been opened, regardless if it’s defective or not. Some retailers are strict, others are not. At Ryve we pride ourselves on having happy customers, and so do whatever is reasonably necessary to get win/win outcomes. If you are unsure what or where the return policy is, just ask.

When you’re in the market of buying a home theatre, before you purchase, ensure you consider the above points. Should you want help with a purchase, feel free to browse our online store of home theatre packages or singular items, and get in touch for more information or a custom tailored solution.

Essentially the term “Home Theatre” is commonly defined as an audio and video equipment set up in your home that provides the movie theatre experience. Although in truth, often a good Home Theatre setup may provide a more impressive experience than many multiplex cinema screens.

The term ‘Home Theatre’ can vary widely, and often many consumers think this means a lot of money, equipment, and cables running all over the place. However, contrary to popular belief, with some planning, assembling your Home Theatre can be easy, resulting in a setup that is functional, and provides a great experience.

A custom Home Theatre can be done on a budget or cost tens of thousands of dollars with a high end large screen TV or video projector, Blu-Ray Disc/Ultra HD Blu-ray player(s), a media server, cable/satellite, separate amplifiers for each channel controlled by a master preamp or controller, in-wall speakers, and a couple of subwoofers; the works! If you want all the bells and whistles, a custom home theatre designed to your specific space (and if your budget allows!) is a great way to go.

More often than not, home theatres do not necessarily consist of an expensive custom installation, nor cost a lot of money. Something as simple as a 32 to 55-inch TV, combined with at least a DVD player and soundbar, or a Blu-ray Disc player connected with a stereo or home theatre receiver, speakers, and a subwoofer creates a decent and modest home cinema experience.
Recently upgrading to a large screen TVs, and/or Blu-ray Disc player does not require a big wallet – even a growing number of video projectors are becoming reasonably-priced home theatre options. If you have a little more cash, a 4K Ultra HD LED/LCD or OLED TV might be options to consider.
Something that should be considered in a home theatre setup is internet streaming. Although most TVs and Blu-ray Disc players stream TV shows and movies from the internet, it’s best to ensure you have direct streaming, to get the most out of services such as Apple tv, Netflix and Stan.

By installing a home theatre, you can use it as a hub to expand your TV viewing and music listening throughout the house, either by physical or wireless connectivity.

Controlling the system is often where people get confused, but it doesn’t have to be complex. By using a good universal remote control system, a smartphone, or even the voice control features of Alexa and Google Assistant, you can easily control your home theatre system. Whatever type of system you choose, as long as it provides the entertainment options you want, then it is your “Home Theatre”.

Contact the RYVE team today to chat about your home theatre needs, and we strongly recommend avoiding any ‘spoiler alerts’ of shows and movies to friends and family, we can guarantee this is rarely appreciated.
